Laredo Lemurs starter Ryan Beckman earned more than a win with his complete game shutout on Saturday. Beckman was awarded the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week award in the American Association for his efforts.
Beckman stifled the Sioux Falls Canaries bats with nine shutout innings allowing just 4 hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters. It was Beckman’s second complete game of the season, but his first shutout. The Lemurs won 6-0 over the Canaries.
He threw eight shutout innings in his start before that on the 19th of June, but that misses the cutoff for the week by a day. Beckman has thrown 25 innings in his last three starts and is riding a 20 inning scoreless streak.
Beckman was drafted in the 18th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Grayson County College in Denison, Texas. He spent six seasons in the Pirates organization making stops with the State College Spikes, West Virginia Power, Bradenton Marauders, and Altoona Curve.
