In this series, the team leading after the 6th inning has gone onto win the game and that didn’t change on Saturday night. The Blasters were leading 5-4 after the 6th inning and went on to win 6-5. The Lemurs jumped off to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, Denis Phipps got the Lemurs on the board with a two run double, and he came around to score when third baseman Brandon Tierney couldn’t handle a throw when Phipps was stealing 3rd and Phipps was able to score.
Laredo starter Barret Loux was causing through three innings facing the minimum hitters and only allowing one hit but the fourth inning caused problems. A lead-off triple by Mitch Glassar starting things off and Glassar came into score on a sacrifice fly by Will Soto making it 3-1. With two outs, Loux allowed three singles in a row to load the bases for Sean Smith. Loux thought he struck Smith out on a 2-2 pitch but it was called a ball to load the count and on the 3-2 pitch, Smith hit a single back up the middle to tie the game at 3. Loux got the final out of the inning but that was his final inning of work.
Manny Martinez made his Lemurs debut and allowed a run in his inning of work giving the Blasters a 4-3 lead and the Blasters never looked back. Joplin starter Wander Perez pitched five innings allowing three runs and in the fifth, got out of a bases loaded one out situation unscathed.
The Lemurs added a run in the 6th to make it 5-4, then the Blasters answered in the 7th to make it 6-4 and that was all they would need. Denis Phipps knocked his 15th home run of the season to make it a one run game in the 7th inning, but the Lemurs couldn’t get another man across the plate.
Victor Capellan pitched a scoreless eight and ninth inning to record the six out save, his seventh of the season.
