LAREDO’S UNI-TRADE STADIUM

LAREDO, TEXAS— Hall of Fame promoter, Bob Arum announced today that his promotion firm, Top Rank, Inc., will present the first-ever boxing event at Uni-Trade Stadium, in Laredo, on Saturday, May 11^th.  The nationally televised event on the new UniMas Network will feature a main event to be announced as well as a Special Attraction bout featuring two-time Mexican Olympian, Oscar Valdez.

The 22 year old Valdez, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, is 3-0 as a professional.  He represented Mexico in both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. He made it to the medal round in 2012, after winning his first two fights. Valdez is scheduled to fight Jose Morales, of Denver, Colorodo, in a six-round Featherweight bout. There are seven total bouts scheduled for the card. The remainder of the card is to be announced.

Regular ticket prices are $15 (reserved) and $20 (box). VIP Field Tables (for 10 persons) are $500 and $750.

With a voucher from participating Laredo area Whataburger restaurants, GENERAL ADMISSION IS FREE or can be used to UPGRADE TO RESERVED SEATING for $5 or BOX SEATS for $10.

According to Arum, his company is looking forward to a festive atmosphere at Uni-Trade Stadium. “We love doing ballpark fights, and have done many,” noted Arum. “We have heard so many good things about the great fight fans in Laredo as well as the new Uni-Trade Stadium.  This is going to be an exciting night for Top Rank and especially for the many fans there in Laredo. There’s nothing better than boxing under the stars.”

Tribute Concert slated to be first tour stop in the United States

Laredo, TX – Uni-Trade Stadium and Victor Estrada Promotions is proud to announce the first major concert at Uni-Trade Stadium will feature Lupillo Rivera on Friday, March 1^st at 8:00pm.

The concert will be a Tribute to Jenni Rivera, Lupillo Rivera’s sister, who died in a plane crash on December 9, 2012 at the age of 43.

Lupillo and Jenni Rivera both grew up in Long Beach, California with Lupillo starting his music career working in a recording studio owned by his father Pedro Rivera.  Lupillo was given the task of looking for local talent at bars, with the idea that his father would sign them to his label.

When Lupillo first started singing he was called El Toro del Corrido.  By 1999, Lupillo began to sing using his real name and by then he had already signed with Sony Discos.  His star began to rise at that point and in 2001 Lupillo was awarded a Premios lo Nuestro.  Lupillo was also nominated for an ALMA Award in 2002 in the category of “Outstanding Spanish Language Performance in a Television Special”.

In 2004, A Marine who died in Iraq had requested that Lupillo sing at his funeral should he die.  Lupillo complied with the request, leaving one of his famous sombreros on the Marine’s casket during the funeral.

Lupillo Rivera has released 23 albums over his 18 year career.

The Lemurs came out of the gate with their hitting shoes on and put up a run in the first inning.  Stephen Douglas opened up the game with a base hit followed by a Palmer Karr Jr. single.  John Allen added a single to drive in Douglas and the Lemurs grabbed an early 1-0 lead.

The Lemurs lead would last till the bottom of the third with the Wichita Wingnuts picking up four runs, on two hits, with two walks, as they sent nine batters came to the plate scaring Lemurs starting pitcher Ryan Sasaki out of the game.

Sasaki took the loss as he went two and a third, giving up four runs, on two hits, giving up four walks, and striking out a batter.

The Wingnuts picked up two more runs off of Edwin Walker in the seventh.  Walker picked up the first two outs easily in his first inning of work and then gave up a base hit to Greg Porter then David Peralta followed up the base hit with a homerun over the right field wall to make it 6-2 Wingnuts.  The homerun by Peralta was his second of the series with the Lemurs.

The Wingnuts picked up two more runs in the eighth against Chaz Roe to make a 8-2 ballgame which would be the final.

Derek Blacksher picked up the win for the Wingnuts as he went seven strong, giving up two runs, on seven hits, with one walk, and seven strikeouts.

Stephen Douglas had a big night for the Lemurs picking up two hits in four at bats, with a homerun, and two runs scored.  John Allen, Palmer Karr Jr. and Philip Incaviglia each had two hits on the night.  Stephen Pearson had a rough night at the plate striking out four times for the first time all year.

With the loss the Lemurs are swept out of the American Association Semi-Finals.  The American Association Championship will feature the Central champion Wichita Wingnuts and the Wild Card winner from the North Division Winnipeg Goldeyes.
