Laredo, TX – The Grand Prairie AirHogs (13-20) put together a five-run, five-hit second inning and never looked back as they beat the Laredo Lemurs (18-16) 5-3 Friday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Zane Chavez started off the AirHogs’ second inning by picking up a base hit. With one out Chris Elder singled, sending Chavez to third. During the Robi Estrada at bat, Elder would steal second base to put runners at second and third with one down. Estrada earned a walk a few pitches later to load the bases. Then Josh Eartherly singled to drive in Chavez to tie the game at one. The AirHogs picked up four more hits in the frame and saw another walk and a sac-fly by Victor Diaz score a run for the five run, five hit second.
The Lemurs offense scattered three runs, picking up one in the first, one in the third, and another in the seventh. The Lemurs left seven runners on base with four being left in scoring position and two left at third base.
The winning pitcher was Stetson Nelson (1-0), who made his professional debut on the mound tonight for the AirHogs. Nelson went five innings, giving up two runs on three hits with four walks and four stikeouts.
The losing pitcher for the Lemurs was starting pitcher Henry Garcia (1-3), who went six giving up five runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts. After Garcia gave up the five runs in the second, he only allowed three base hits through the next four innings of work.
The Lemurs will take on the AirHogs tomorrow night at 7:30pm at Uni-Trade Stadium in the third game of a four game series. Sunday’s game at Uni-Trade Stadium is set for a 6:00pm start.
