With the largest crowd of the season 6,160, the Lemurs gave the fans what they wanted, a blowout win. Laredo defeated Texas 12-0 to complete the series sweep and bring them to a tie atop the south division standing with Wichita.
Fans didn’t have to wait until after the game to wait for fireworks, they started early when Leandro Castro hit a solo home run to left field to give the Lemurs a 1-0 lead. Denis Phipps made it 2-0 with a RBI single, Zane Chavez score on a balk, then Ty Morrison finished off the inning with a RBI single scoring Abel Nieves. Those four runs in the first proved to be all the Lemurs needed on Sunday night but they didn’t stop in front of the sellout crowd.
Starting pitcher Barret Loux pitched arguably his best game of the season. He threw seven shutout innings to go along with nine strikeouts. Loux now is 2-0 with a 0.72 ERA and in all four games he has started the Lemurs have won. Kamakani Usui and Jeff Inman both pitched scoreless innings.
Offensively, Zane Chavez went 3-4 with 2 doubles, and 4 RBI’s, Drew Martinez was 4-6 with 4 runs scored. The last seven times Martinez has reached base, he has scored. Leandro Castro continued his hot streak with going 5-6 in addition to the aforementioned leadoff solo home run.
“Tonight was another all-around team performance and we need to continue those as we head to Wichita for the next series,” Ty Morrison said.
