After the three day all-star break, the Lemurs started the playoff push on the right note, a 4-3 over the Joplin Blasters. Denis Phipps lead the Lemurs with a two-run home run in the 4th inning to tie the game at 3. Phipps also made a huge play in the field, throwing out Edwin Gomez at home plate to end the 3rd inning when the Blasters had bases loaded and nobody out and limited the damage to only two runs.
Zane Chavez gave the Lemurs the lead in the 6th inning when he hit a soft line drive to left field which drove in Phipps who was on second base. Thats all the Lemurs would need, they were able to hold the 4-3.
The bullpen did a fabulous job, pitching six shutout innings, after starter Gabe Perez went three innings allowing three runs on five hits. Luis Pollorena pitched two shut out innings, Kamakani Usui recorded the win, Danny Reynolds, and Luis De La Cruz all pitched shut out innings. Jeff Inman came in the 9th inning and recorded his 8th save of the season and he recoded two strikeouts in his perfect inning of work.
For the Blasters, Luis Gonzalez was credited with the loss as he pitched six innings, allowing four runs. Gonzalez was able to quiet the Lemurs bats in in three innings but the Lemurs did enough damage in the three innings they scored in that it didn’t matter.
The Lemurs will look to take game two tomorrow night on Friday night fireworks as Troy Marks toes the rubber for the Lemurs and Santos Arias will take the mound for the Blasters.
