Lemurs Edge Blasters

Laredo came out looking for a series win against the Blasters in game two of their three game series. The Lemurs once more had spectacular pitching from their staff and rode that to victory tonight against a Blasters team that also had some great pitching in a 2-1 ballgame. Troy Marks turned in his best start of the season for Laredo while Charlie Fuentes did the same for Joplin. Neither pitcher would get the decision though as they left the ballgame with it tied.

Both of Laredo’s runs were generated thanks to Blasters’ errors. Their first one came in the second inning. Abel Nieves would leadoff with a single and would move to second with a Drew Martinez walk. Nieves would then tag on a flyball to left. Martinez would steal second during Reggie Wilson’s at-bat. The throw would go in to center field and Nieves would score. Wilson and Rondon would both ground out to end the inning and the Lemurs led the Blasters 1-0.

Joplin answered in the top of the third against Marks. Aaron Brill would walk to start the inning and would move on to second on a Zach Burling sacrifice bunt. Ronnie Richardson would then hit a single to the outfield and Brill would score from second, tying the game. That would be all Joplin would get in the ballgame against Laredo. Marks threw five innings giving up just a run on four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Kyle Winkler got his fourth win of the season while Jeff Inman recorded his league leading sixth save.

Laredo would take the lead in the seventh inning against Jose Ortega. Reggie Wilson reached first on a one-out walk. Then on a errant pickoff attempt he would go all the way to third and eventually score on a Ty Morrison single to shallow right field. The two teams combined for just nine hits and 10 walks tonight as base-runners were at a premium. The Lemurs go for the series sweep on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM CT.
