Behind seven strong innings from opening day start Ryan Beckman and a first inning RBI single by Zane Chavez in the first inning, the Lemurs were able to hold off the Lincoln Saltdogs 1-0 on Friday night. The Saltdogs came into the game winning seven in a row and eight of their last ten.
Ryan Beckman allowed five hits in seven innings of work and had to really work his last hitter in the seventh inning. Diana Moreira was up with two outs, runners on second and third but Beckman was able to win the the 14-pitch battle and induce a groundout back to himself.
“I have to tip my cap to him, he was battling and but together a great at bat and I was just able to get him out.” Beckman said of the at bat.
Offensively the Lemurs were able to get plenty of hits off of Saltdogs starter Matt Larkins but wasn’t able score many runs. The first five hitters of the game reached based capped off by the Chavez single. If it weren’t for the two base running miscues only allowed the Lemurs to score that one run.
It proved to be enough though as the Lemurs as they held on to the one run lead and Luis Pollorena came on the for the save.
Game two is tonight at 7:05 as the Lemurs look to take the series.
