Laredo entered Wichita for a three game series hoping to gain some separation in the American Association South Division. They left with the wrong kind of separation after Wichita won all three games including the series finale 9-8. While the Lemurs offense had no problem scoring runs in the finale, the pitching just couldn’t keep the Wingnuts off the board.
Newly signed starter Josue Montanez for Laredo threw just 3.1 innings and allowed four runs on six hits as the Wingnuts scored a run in each of the first four innings of the game. Laredo would score two runs in the top of the third inning to momentarilly tie the game and then four runs in the fourth inning to take a lead that lasted till the bottom of the fifth.
The Wingnuts just kept slowly adding runs to the board as they scored in all but the seventh inning and they did not bat in the ninth. Laredo would tie the game in the top of the eighth on an Alvaro Rondon RBI single, but Wichita bounced back and regained the lead with a Zach Cox solo home run to right field.
The Lemurs threw five pitchers, all of which gave up at least one run. Luis Pollorena and Luis De La Cruz combined to throw 1.1 innings and allow the three run fifth inning. Harold Guerrero and Kamakani Usui each gave up a run in their outings.
At the plate, the bottom of the order got it done for the Lemurs as Ty Morrison, J.D. Pulfer, and Alvaro Rondon combined for six hits, six runs, and three runs batted in. Rondon had three hits, two runs, and three RBI himself. Leandro Castro added a solo home run in the game and Drew Martinez was 2-5 with an RBI as well.
The Lemurs next four games are in Amarillo against the Texas AirHogs as they try to maintain their undefeated record against Texas this season and get back on the winning track.
