Lemurs Walk-Off On AirHogs

The Lemurs and AirHogs played yet another tight game in the third game of their four game series. Including tonight, they have played seven games against each other this season decided by one run, including all three in this series. Laredo has managed to come up on the winning end each and every time.

Laredo took an early lead against Texas, scoring a run in the second inning on a Ty Morrison double. That lead would soon evaporate. Jose Nivar walked the first batter of the third inning and then gave up a two-run home run to Devon Rodriguez. The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the AirHogs all the way until the bottom of the ninth.
The AirHogs sent Alan Oaks on to pitch the ninth inning and close out the game. With one out and no one on, Denis Phipps came to the plate. Rewind to August 16th. Oaks on the hill, Phipps at the plate, runner at first, one run game. Phipps hit a walk-off two-run home run and give the Lemurs the win. Fast forward to tonight, Phipps vs. Oaks again. This time, Phipps hit a solo home run to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
Extra innings proved to be no problem for Laredo. Cody Culp came in to pitch for Oaks and got Burt Reynolds to fly out for the first out of the inning. But then Jesus Posso would double down the left field line and be pinch run for by Jimmy Norris. Alvaro Rondon came to the plate with one out and a runner on second and laced a single to right center, driving in Norris from second and the Lemurs kept their playoff hopes alive.
Lemurs starter Jose Nivar lasted just three innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four. Luis Pollorena came on to pitch in relief and threw 4.2 innings of shutout baseball giving up just a hit and a walk while striking out one batter. Luis De La Cruz tossed 1.1 innings, striking out all four batters he faced. The win went to Manny Martinez after he threw a shutout 10th inning.
Texas starter Carlos Misell tossed six innings and gave up just one run on three hits and four strikeouts. Zack Karraker and Trey Masek each threw a shutout inning of relief. Cody Culp took the loss for the AirHogs after he threw that third of an inning.
While the Lemurs came from behind late to win, the Goldeyes also came back from behind against the St. Paul Saints late to win. That keeps the Lemurs one game out of the Wild Card. Laredo take on Texas for one more game before Wichita comes to town for four games to close out the season.
